Blame It On De Beers

The diamond has it's routes in a very dark place beneath the earth. A true loved one is hard to get so the diamond must be just as elusive.
Kimberley South Africa was a newly discovered region, began to flood the market with not so rare gems. Around 1880 Cecil John Rhodes formed De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd. The motive to control the sale of diamonds throughout the world. According to "The History of The Engagement Ring", even 65% of the diamond trade is still controlled by them.
During this time (Victorian Era) the, certain birthstones
were a rarity and more desirable to the diamond. Rings were designed with the accent of diamonds, while stones like rubies, emeralds, and others took center stage.
Very interesting, when sales for diamonds began to drop, De Beers embarked on a marketing campaign that is still used today. "A Diamond is Forever", this accompanied with the idea it was reasonable for a man to spend 2 to 3 months salary for a ring. Then comes Gentlemen Prefer Blonde's, "Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend", sung by Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell, these rocks are not loosing their shape, luster, or desire.
Yes folks we have been duped, hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray. It's all a marketing ploy for us to get buy bigger and more than we can afford. Although I will understand there is a great value in the diamond, when he slips the perfectly cut diamond ring on your finger, take a look at the value of the relationship and you will find a Kings ransom in that.
Choose love and happiness, the prosperity will be sure to follow.
